Dollar General Faces Tough Fight For Berkeley Heights Store Location Amidst Opposition

Michael Hausfeld set to make life hard for Dollar General’s location in Berkeley Springs.

Dollar General Group, Inc. (NYSE:DG) has a tough fight ahead for its proposed site in the area of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Michael Hausfeld, deemed as the toughest lawyer in America, has been hooked in by a group of West Virginia residents, who are concerned about the potential impact in terms of environment and wellbeing of the community in terms of the proposed Dollar General store. They are asking the company to remain transparent about the evaluation of the proposal. The location of the site is said to be near between Route 522 and Oakland Road.

In response, Dollar Group’s Dan MacDonald responded to Hausfeld’s claims last month by pointing out that the developer, Cross Development, conducted a study on behalf of the company and determined that the proposed site has “met all of our criteria for a new Dollar General“.

According to Mr. MacDonald, the company has signed a lease with Cross Development to operate a store in that particular location, and they are legally bound to abide by it. Additionally, it states that after a thorough evaluation, the company confirmed that the store is on an ideal location and it will fill an important need for the convenience of everyday food items, supplies, and other accessories to the public.

Hausfeld responded by stating that the message has been communicated to the residents who are highly appreciative for the company’s intentions. However, they have requested a copy of the detailed findings of the study and recommendations of Cross Development for the Route 522/Oakland Road location. However, Mr. MacDonald politely declined, pointing to the proprietary information as confidential.

Months ago, residents of Berkeley Hills accused the Morgan County Planning Commission of hastily cutting corners to quicken the process of rubber-stamping the Dollar General Development. Larry Schultz filed the lawsuit and to this end, a hearing has been set for the next two days at the Morgan County Courthouse.

Before the court hearing, Hausfeld wrote a letter to CEO Dreiling, stating that citizens have suggested that there are better alternatives other than the Rt. 522/Oakland Rd. location, and that it would be wise to be engaged in a dialogue to see if a reasonable compromise can be reached between the two parties.

Dollar General Group Corp’s stock price reached at $73.23, a decline of 0.70% from the previous day. Investors are eagerly waiting for the outcome of the hearing that is scheduled tomorrow.
